7 killed in road crashes

Seven people were killed and several others hurt in two separate road accidents in Feni and Tangail on Wednesday.

In Feni, four people were killed and three others injured when a pick-up rammed a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Bariapool area at Shubhopur union under Chhagalnaiya upazila on Wednesday. Three of the deceased have been identified as Bibi Hajera, wife of Abdul Gofran, of Chandpur village in the upazila, Arif, son of Enamul Haque, of Katagang village under Joraganj upazila in Mirsarai, and Nurul Islam, son of Dorbesh Ali, of Tangail. Identity of another could not be known immediately.

Md Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chhagalnaiya Police Station, said the pick-up hit the auto-rickshaw from behind around 12:00 noon, leaving four passengers dead on the spot and three others injured.  On the other hand, three people were killed and another was injured after a microbus ploughed into a parked covered van in Pakulla Bus Stand area in Mirzapur Upazila of Tangail Wednesday morning.

The dead have been identified as microbus driver Hasan, son of Gani Miah, of Nurpur Village in Akhaura, helper Emon, son of Salam Miah, of Tula Bari Village, and Golam Mawla Shamim, son of Emdadul, of Piari Village in Joypurhat.
