Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (Barvida) has demanded suspension of auction activities of imported automobiles at Mongla Port until December this year amid pandemic.

The trade body made the demand in response to a letter from Mongla Customs House on Wednesday mentioning the auction schedule at the last week of May.

“Such kind of immediate auction may affect automobile businesses financially. As well as there is a chance to hamper the stability of the market. The bank investment in the automobile sector is also down from an uncertainty,” read the Barvida statement.

The Barvida mentioned that the corona pandemic has created a negative impact in the sector in the last one year and businesses counted huge losses due to the general holidays and the lockdown.

Association leaders claimed that the automobile sector remained out from the stimulus package announced by government though the sector has contributed huge revenue to the national exchequer.
