18 members of 2 youth gangs held

Rapid Action Battalion-4 (RAB) arrested 18 members of two youth gangs in Dhaka’s Shah Ali and Ashulia areas on Monday.

They are Ratul Ahmed, 24, Abu Hasnath Roni, 20, Mohammad Sagor, 22, Mohammad Hridoy, 19, Abdullah Al Mamun, 17,  Sakib Sheikh, 17, Mohammad Jahid, 16, Rakib Howlader, 17,  Sourabh, 17, Mohammad Rajon, 16, Nayan Hossain, 18, Sirajul Islam, 20,  Mohammad Rafiq, 21, Shakib Howlader, 19,  Mohammad Milon, 22, Mohammad Akash, 19, Mohammad Rubel, 28, and Yaseen Arafat, 19.

A team of the elite force nabbed them from Diabari in Shah Ali and Dendabar Pallybidyut in Ashulia in between 12:20 am and 4:45 am.

A Chinese axe, three knives, two machetes, 410 Yaba pills and Tk 3,650 in cash were seized from them.

Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury, operations officer of the RAB-4, told the Daily Sun that during preliminary interrogation, they said that they were involved in drug trade, extortion, eve-teasing and some other criminal acts.

They robbed people of valuables and cash at gunpoint, he said. Members of one gang were also locked in clash with another one over establishing supremacy in the areas.
