ASI suspended for ‘raping’ woman in quarantine

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police has been suspended after his arrest on Monday allegedly for raping a woman kept in quarantine in Khulna.

The woman has been kept in quarantine as she returned from India after visiting the country recently.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Anwar Hossain confirmed the information of his suspension.

Earlier on the day, a team of Khulna Sadar Police Station arrested the ASI named Mokhlesur Rahman from Khulna city area hours after the victim filed a case with the police station, confirmed Ashraful Alam, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Mokhles, who was posted at Khulna Metropolitan Police, has been doing duties at Khulna Primary Teachers Training Institute’s Covid-19 quarantine since May 1.

The ASI raped the woman in the quarantine on May 14 after she was kept there since May 4.

Meanwhile, the district administration formed an investigation committee headed by an additional district magistrate (ADM) to probe into the allegation.
