At least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured in separate road accidents across the country on Monday.
In the capital, a woman named Shahinur Begum, 36, died and her son Shanto, 6, sustained critical injuries as a private car hit them while they were crossing a road at Gulshan at about 12:30am.Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, said that the accident occurred when the woman along with her husband and two sons were crossing the road between Gulshan-1 and 2.
Shahinur was holding the hand of Shanto when her husband Abdus Sattar was carrying their three-year-old son Sakib at the time of crossing the road, he said.
Suddenly, a private car hit the woman and Shanto, leaving them injured, but the father and the three-year-old child were unhurt, the officer said.
In Khulna, a man, Rintu, 38, was killed and five were injured in a collision between a truck and Mahindra on the Khulna-Jashore highway at Fultola upazila.
In Gazipur, motorcyclist Jahangir Alam, 40, was killed when a vehicle, whose name could not be known immediately, hit it on the Dhaka-Tangail highway at about 1:00pm. Jahangir is the son of Alim Uddin of Sirajganj Sadar upazila, said Jubayer Hossain, sub-inspector of Gorai Highway Police Outpost.
In Savar of Dhaka district, at least 10 people were injured in a tripartite collision between a bus, a truck and a motorcycle at Niribili at about 2:00pm. The wounded, who were the passengers of the bus and the motorcyclist, were admitted to Ashulia Health Complex.In Narayanganj, two motorcyclists were killed when their motorbike and a covered-van collided head on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Siddhirganj around 8:00am.
In Chattogram, a man named Ziaur Rahman, 35, was killed and three others were injured when a pickup van and an auto-rickshaw collided head on at Chowmohoni in Anwara at about 6:30am.
In Mymensingh, three members of a family were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Raymon.
