Bangladesh’s per capita income soars to $2,227

Bangladesh’s per capita income has increased by almost 9 per cent as the figure made a jump to $2,227 in FY 2020-21 from $2,064 in FY 2019-20, Planning Minister MA Mannan said on Monday.

Per capita income is a measure of the amount of money earned per person in a nation or geographic region.

The size of the country’s gross domestic product has also increased to Tk 30.87 trillion from Tk 27.96 trillion, according to the minister who disclosed the information during the regular cabinet meeting held virtually with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam briefed the reporters after the meeting.

The prime minister joined the meeting virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban.

Other cabinet members joined from the Secretariat.

"Our per capita income stands at $2,227 in FY 2020-21. The per capita income was $2064 last year. So the growth is 9 per cent," said Khandker Anwarul.
