CHATTOGRAM: A Chattogram court on Saturday placed former Jamaat lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury on a three-day remand in a case filed over the violence at Hathazari upazila in March.

Chattogram Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahriar Iqbal passed the order after police submitted a petition, said Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Abdullah Al Masum of Chattogram district police.

Police sought a seven-day remand in the case, he added.  Shahjahan was also shown arrested in two other cases following the court orders.

Mentionable, police arrested the Jamaat leader from his residence in Satkania municipality area on Saturday morning for his link with the violence carried out by Hefazat-e-Islam at Hathazari upazila centring the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 26 and March 27.
