Night guard killed in city

A gang of thieves killed a night guard at Vasantek and dumped his body at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar in the capital early on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Sujon Mia, 40. He worked as a night guard at Kachukhet in Vasantek area, said Sheikh Jahirul Islam, sub-inspector of Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

His body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

“We primarily came to know that he resisted a group of thieves when they were stealing goods at some shops there. At one stage, the criminals hit his head with something stiff and picked up him in their vehicle, and suffocated to death.”

Later, his body was dumped on the 60-Feet Road at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, he said.

The police officer said as the incident happened at Vasantek, the police of the area would carry out investigation into it.

Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Vasantek Police Station, told the Daily Sun that the criminals stole about 10 to 12 vehicle batteries from ‘Anik Motors.’

Police are trying to arrest the criminals. A case is underway in this regard, he said.

Sujon hailed from Barhatta village at Karimganj upazila in Kishoreganj district.

Earlier on March 10, a group of thieves killed another night guard named Kazi Salauddin, 60, at Khilgaon as he opposed them to steal at some shops.

His body was dumped on the road in front of Khidma Hospital after he had been killed behind the hospital.
