Govt publishes list of 6,988 more freedom fighters

The government on Sunday published the second list of valiant freedom fighters, containing some 6,988 names.

Liberation War Affairs Ministry published the names of genuine freedom fighters from eight divisions across the country.

The list will be available on the ministry’s website, said a press release of the ministry.

According to the ministry, 1942 from Dhaka, 1347 from Chattogram, 573 from Barishal, 770 from Khulna, 567 from Mymensingh, 684 from Rajshahi, 572 from Rangpur and 533 from Sylhet were included in the second part of the list.

Earlier on March 25, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs published the first part of the corrected final list of freedom fighters containing 147,537 names.

Moreover, the ministry also published the names of 191 martyred intellectuals who lost their lives during the liberation war in 1971.

However, currently, a total of 201,461 freedom fighters receive honorarium from the government while a total of 251,285 people claim themselves as freedom fighters.

The minister earlier said the number of genuine freedom fighters will not be more than 210,000.
