Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim said the government will disburse Tk 292 crore as incentives to more than 2 lakh farmers in the country’s fisheries and livestock sector.
“The money will be not given as loans. This is intended to support small and marginal farmers so they can turn around,” he said at press briefing on Sunday.The briefing was held over the activities taken by the ministry of fisheries and livestock during the pandemic to save the sector and other related issues at the ministry in Dhaka.
SM Rezaul Karim said an amount Tk 554 crore was also distributed earlier among 4 lakh farmers affected by the pandemic and natural calamities in the fisheries and livestock sector.
The ministry has launched mobile pogramme to sell milk, eggs and meat at fair prices across the country during the lockdown imposed due to the pandemic.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister said, “About Tk 9,200 crore worth of goods was sold in the mobile sales centres across the country last year. It benefited the producers and farms as well as the consumers.” He boasted that such step was the first in the country in its 50 years of independence.
