Steps to be taken to execute verdict: Minister

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque on Saturday said that steps would be taken to execute the verdict in connection with the Ahsanullah Master murder case following resumption of court proceedings.

"The verdict in the murder case is being delayed due to closure of court amid the coronavirus pandemic. Once the court proceedings resume, steps will be taken to implement the verdict,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a virtual remembrance meeting organised by Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Smriti Parishad marking the 18th martyrdom anniversary of the former member of the parliament (MP).

The meeting was alternately chaired by Advocate Abdul Baten, newly-elected president of Dhaka Bar Association, and the Association’s general secretary Ataur Rahman. Meher Afroz, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children, attended the meeting as a special guest.

Hyderabad Public Welfare Society and Ahsanullah Master Smriti Parishad jointly organised a milad mahfil after Asr prayers. Besides, special prayers was held at a mosque.

Earlier, State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, son of Shaheed Ahsanullah Master, paid wreathes at his father's grave. Later, AKM Mozammel Haque, Meher Afroz MP, Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League President Advocate Azmat Ullah Khan and Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Jahangir Alam Ahsan also paid homage at the grave of the late lawmaker.

Ahsanullah Master was elected MP twice from Tongi constituency in 1996 and 2001. He was a chairman of Gazipur Sadar Upazila in 1990 and an elected chairman of Pubail Union Parishad twice in 1983 and 1986. He was a member of the National Committee of the Awami League and served as the acting president and general secretary of the Jatiya Shramik League.
