Chicken, sugar prices soar in city markets

Prices of broiler chicken and sugar have increased while most of the vegetables prices remained stable in the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The price of broiler and sugar declined last week but it increased again on Friday following rise in demand of the food.

Price hike of most of the essentials is affecting fixed and low-income people while the decline of some essentials gave them some respite.

While visiting Mohammadpur Krishi market it was seen that price of broiler chicken was sold at Tk 150-155 per kg while it was Tk130-140 a week earlier.  

Sonali chicken was sold at Tk 230-240 per kg while it was same a week earlier and Tk 340-350 a

month earlier.

Price of layer chicken was Tk 230-235 per kg while it was Tk 200 per kg a week earlier.

As sale of some chicken have increased ahead of Eid, price of chicken soared in the market, chicken seller Sofiqul Islam said.

Price of sugar has also increased in the market. Loose sugar was sold at Tk 75 per kg while it was Tk 72-74 per kg a week earlier. Packet sugar was sold at Tk 78 per kg while it was Tk 75 per kg a week earlier.

Price of cauliflower was selling at Tk40-50 per piece. It was sold at the same price last week. Eggplant was selling at Tk 40-60 per kg. Cucumber was sold at Tk30-40 per kg and pointed guard was selling at Tk 30-40 per kg.   

Yardlong bean was selling at Tk 40-50 per kg, okra was at Tk 30-40 per kg, sponge gourd was sold at Tk 40-50 per kg.

Tomato was sold at Tk 30-40 per kg, arum at Tk 70-80 and green banana was sold at Tk 30-40 per four pieces.
