A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed two Hefazat leaders on different terms of remand in two cases filed with Motijheel and Paltan police stations over the 2013 mayhem in the capital.

The two leaders are former assistant organising secretary of Hefazat Mufti Shakhawat Hossain Razi and former assistant secretary general Maulana Monzurul Islam Afendi.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahinur Rahman passed the orders after two investigators produced them before the court seeking on a 14-day remand each in the cases.

Court sources said the two accused were placed on three-day remand each in a case filed by Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem.

Meanwhile, Shakhawat was also placed on a three-day remand in another case filed with Motijheel Police Station over the violence in 2013.

Opposing the remand petition, defence submitted two separate petitions seeking bail but the court rejected the pleas after hearing.

The Hefazat leaders were produced before the court on completion of different terms of remand in two others cases filed with Paltan Police Station.
