Federation Cup runners-up Saif Sporting Club conceded a shocking 1-2 goals defeat to Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in a Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.

Mohammedan’s Cameroonian forward Yassan Ouatching and Malian forward Souleymane Diabate scored one goal each while forward Md Maraz Hossain netted for Saif.

After the barren first half, Mohammedan took the lead in the 52nd minute.

Saif goalkeeper Pappu Hossain rebounded a flick from Sayed Rakib Khan Evan inside the box but unmarked Ouatching seized the chance and sent the ball into the net.

Saif’s Maraz levelled the margin 1-1 in the 69th minute after the local forward scored with a powerful right-footer while Nigerian forward John Okoli sent the ball to him just outside of the box.

Mohammedan’s Malian forward Diabate scored the winner in the 84th minute as he sent the ball home with a right-footed grounder, off a pass from midfielder Jafar Iqbal.

With this defeat, Saif dropped to sixth place with 23 points from 14 matches while Mohammedan climbed to fifth place with 25 points from 14 matches.
