3 Hefazat leaders put on remand

A Dhaka Court on Monday placed three Hefazat leaders on different terms of remand in three cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations on charges of violence.

The leaders are Azizul Haque Islamabadi, organising secretary of Hefazat’s now-dissolved committee; Maulana Jubair Ahmed, former vice-president of its Dhaka City unit, and Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed, former assistant general secretary of the organisation.

Metropolitan Magistrate Masud-Ur-Rahman passed the orders after three investigation officers produced them before the court seeking on a total of 24-day remand for each in three cases.

The court granted seven-day remand for Azizul in two cases filed with Paltan Police Station over violence on March 26 centring the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Maulana Jubair was placed on a six-day remand in two cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations over violence at the areas on May 5, 2013 and on March 26, this year.
