Stocks gain 3rd straight day

Stocks continued to gain for the third consecutive session on Sunday and also made a slightly improved turnover.

DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 37.40 points or 0.68 per cent to settle at 5,517.

Two other indices also ended marginally higher. The Shariah Index (DSES) rose 5.29 points or 0.42 per cent to finish at 1,255 and the DS30 index, comprising blue chips, surged by 12.41 points or 0.59 per cent to close at 2,123.

Turnover on the DSE rose to Tk 14.07 billion, which was 19.96 per cent higher than the previous day’s turnover of Tk 11.73 billion.

Out of 361 issues traded, 180 advanced, 104 declined and 77 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

A total number of 191,046 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with a trading volume of 354.99 million shares and mutual fund units.

Beximco -- the flagship company of Beximco Group -- continued to dominate the turnover chart with shares worth about Tk 2.77 billion changing hands, followed by Provati Insurance Company (Tk 789 million), National Feed Mill (Tk 382 million), Beximco Pharma (Tk 334 million), LafargeHolcim Bangladesh (Tk 327 million) and LankaBangla Finance (Tk 253 million).

Khulna Power Company was the day’s top gainer, posting a 10 per cent gain, closely followed by Makson Spinning, Matin Spinning, PTL, Argon Denim, Malek Spinning, MHSML, DSSL, Metro Spinning and Queen South.

Associated Oxygen was the worst loser, losing 7.09 per cent, closely followed by Rupali Insurance, Paramount, Midas Finance, Northern Insurance, RECKITTBEN, CAPMIBBLMF, GRAMEENS2, All Tex and ICBSONALI1.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended marginally higher with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –gaining 128 points to settle at 15,973 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX advancing 74 points to close at 9,634.

Of the issues traded, 145 advanced, 82 declined and 40 remained unchanged on the CSE.
