State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday said that country’s coronavirus situation is coming under control gradually due to charismatic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“In dealing with Covid-19, we have seen many heads  of different countries surrender. But, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has accepted a huge challenge for the people of Bangladesh,” he said.

Khalid, also former organising secretary of Awami League, said this while addressing a view-exchange meeting with local Awami League leaders and activists at Biral upazila in Dinajpur.

“Country’s situation is coming under control gradually with the proper planning of the government. Now the rate of infections is decreasing. Even death rate is reducing as the rate has exceeded 100 per day. Experts say the situation will return to normalcy soon,” he said.

Khalid alleged that some people have been involved in unleashing propaganda against the government through social networking websites. The minister also alleged that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief has been admitted to hospital to spread fear among the people.

Replying to BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s remark that the government carried out crackdown on Hefazat-e-Islam leaders in the name of lockdown, the minister said people of Bangladesh has no confidence on BNP due to their misrule during past regimes.
