A Dhaka court on Thursday placed three leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh on different terms of remand in two cases filed with Paltan Police Station over violence in the capital’s Paltan area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order after Detective Branch of Police produced two out of the three accused before the court seeking on a 10-day remand for each in the case.

The three Hefazat leaders are Mufti Habibullah Mahmud Quasemi, an executive member of now defunct Hefazat’s central committee and Mufti Faisal Mahmud Habibi, former joint secretary general of Hefazat’s Dhaka city unit.

Opposing the remand petitions, defence lawyers submitted a petition seeking bail saying that their clients were not present at the place of occurrence during the mayhem.

After hearing, the magistrate dismissed the defence pleas and placed them on remand in the case.
