Daily corona infection rate drops below 10pc

88 more die in 24hrs

The number of daily coronavirus infection cases has been declining day by day as 2,341 new infection cases and 88 deaths were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.

According to data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of coronavirus deaths has been increasing day by day across the country as 1,654 Covid-19 patients died in the last 18 days.

Among the 88 deceased, 52 were men and 36 were women. Of them, one was within 11-20 years, two were within 21-30 years; three were within 31-40 years old; 15 were between 41-50; 12 within 51-60; and 55 were above 60 years old.

Of the fresh deaths, 52 died in different government hospitals and 33 in different private hospitals and three at home across the country.

Of the deceased, 48 hailed from Dhaka, 22 from Chattogram, four from Rajshahi, one from Khulna, four from Barishal, two from Mymensingh, two from Rangpur and five from Sylhet division.

The DGHS said the total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 11,393 with 88 new deaths in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning. The total death rate has risen to 1.51 percent.

Some 2,341 infection cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, raising the total number to 7,56,955. The daily infection rate has declined to 9.39 percent in the last 24 hours.

Some 4,782 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 6,77,101 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has stood at 89.45 percent.

The DGHS said 13.89 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 9.39 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.

A total of 24,928 samples, out of 24,723 collected, were tested at 358 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 54,48,658 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.

The DGHS said 625 severely ill patients were undergoing treatment in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Covid-19 dedicated hospitals and at corona units of other hospitals across the country.
