CHATTOGRAM: Intern Doctors Association (IDA) of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) went for an indefinite work abstention from Wednesday, protesting attack on fellow members.

Sources said the intern doctors started work abstention from morning, demanding punishment of the attackers.

Earlier, two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) locked in a factional clash over establishing supremacy at the college hostel on Tuesday night.

Some intern doctors who were involved with the politics were also attacked at that time.

At least five doctors including IDA leader Osman Gani were injured during the clash, said the sources.

On the other hand, a meeting chaired by CMCH Director Brigadier General SM Humayun Kabir was held to address the problem on Wednesday afternoon.

But, the meeting concluded without any result while the IDA also announced to continue the work abstention until taking legal action against the attackers.

However, CMCH Director Brigadier General Humyun said they accepted the demands of intern doctors and assured them of taking action against the accused.

They will join the work considering the situation, he said.
