77 more die, 2,955 cases detected

Seventy-seven people died of coronavirus infection and 2,955 new cases were detected in the country during the last 24 hours till Wednesday.

The numbers of daily deaths and infection cases have declined during this time.

According to data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of coronavirus death has been increasing day by day across the country as 1,566 Covid-19 patients died in last 17 days.

Among the 77 deceased, 43 were men and 34 were women. Of them, two were within 21-30 years; eight were within 31-40 years old; three were between 41-50; 12 within 51-60; and 52 were above 60 years old.          

Among the fresh deaths, 49 died in different government hospitals and 27 in different private hospitals and one at home, across the country.

Of the deceased, 46 hailed from Dhaka, nine from Chattogram, five from Rajshahi, seven from Khulna, five from Barishal, two from Mymensingh, one from Rangpur and two from Sylhet division.

The DGHS said the total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 11,305 with 77 new deaths in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning. The total death rate has risen to 1.50 percent.

Some 2,955 infection cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning, raising the total number to 7,54614. The daily infection rate has declined to 10.48 percent in the last 24 hours.

Some 5,392 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 6,72,319 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has stood 89.09 percent.

The DGHS said 13.91 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 10.48 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.

A total of 28,206 samples, out of 28,427 collected, were tested at 358 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 54,23,730 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.

DGHS said 616 severely ill patients were undergoing treatment in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Covid-19 dedicated hospitals and at corona units of other hospitals across the country.
