Bangladesh Bank has extended the order related with the limited-scale banking operation to May 5 as the government announced the current lockdown will continue for another week.
Under the current guideline, the banks are open from 10.00 am to 1:00 pm for transaction on working days.The Department of Off-Site Supervision of BB issued a circular on extending the order. It was sent to all the scheduled banks with immediate effect.
The central bank earlier issued a guideline regarding the limited scale operation of banks during the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of the virus.
According to the guideline, the banks will remain open from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm for transaction on working days, and the post-transaction ancillary activities will continue till 2:30 pm.
The BB instruction also asked banks to keep adequate banknotes at ATM booths and maintain health guidelines.
In addition, the central bank directed the banks to ensure uninterrupted internet banking service with adequate support services.
During the lockdown, the bank head offices, the Authorized Dealers (ADs), local principal offices, the banks’ main branches in every district headquarters and a branch in every two kilometers in city corporation areas (if there is no AD) have to be kept open.Besides, a branch of each bank at upazila level will remain open on alternate days - Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays - of the week.
The banks will have to arrange transportation of its staff during the lockdown period or pay actual transport fare.
Banks that have online facilities for cash deposits and withdrawals will ensure the overall convenience of customer transactions.
At the same time, the banks operating within the two kilometers of the city corporations and district headquarters can conduct banking activities through internal coordination from a convenient branch (excluding the authorized dealer branch) to ensure customer service.
The bank branch / sub-branch / booth of the banks located in the sea / land / airports and customs house area have to be kept open to ensure compliance of health guidelines in consultation with the local administration and port / customs authorities.
