Lyricist Shawkat Osman dies

Prominent lyricist and freedom fighter SM Shawkat Osman died of a cardiac arrest at his Banasree residence in the capital on Monday. He was 72.

The retired deputy secretary is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death, says a press release.

Shawkat Osman, also a noted litterateur, was laid to eternal rest with state honour at Juraine graveyard following his namaz-e-janaza.

Known as Babu in the television arena, Shawkat Osman was a regular lyricist and playwright in the 80s decade.

He wrote a good number of popular songs including ‘Sheikh Mujib Sheikh Mujib Salam Hazar Bar’.
