The numbers of daily coronavirus deaths and infection cases declined in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning as 78 Covid-19 patients died and 3,031 new cases were detected in the country during the period.
According to the data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of coronavirus deaths has been increasing day by day across the country as 1,489 people died of the deadly virus in the last 16 days.Among the 78 deceased, 45 were men and 33 were women. Of them, three were within 31-40 years old; seven within 41-50 years; 15 within 51-60; and 53 were above 60 years old.
Among the fresh deaths, 49 died in different government hospitals and 27 in different private hospitals and two at home across the country.
Of the deceased, 50 hailed from Dhaka, 10 from Chattogram, six from Rajshahi, six from Khulna, one from Barishal, two from Mymensingh and three from Sylhet division.
The DGHS said the total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 11,228 with 78 new deaths in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning. The total death rate has risen to 1.49 percent.
Earlier, 97 deaths were reported on Monday, 101 deaths on Sunday, 83 on Saturday, 88 on Friday, 98 on Thursday, 95 on Wednesday, 91 on Tuesday, 112 on Monday, 102 on Sunday, 101 on Saturday, 101 on Friday, 94 on Thursday and 96 deaths on Wednesday.
Some 3,031 infection cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the total number to 7,51659. The daily infection rate has declined to 12.51 percent in the last 24 hours which was 12.82 percent on Monday, 13.33 percent on Sunday, 13.11 percent on Saturday and 14 percent on Friday.Earlier, 3,306 infection cases were reported on April 26; 2,922 on April 25; 2,697 on April 24; 3,629 on April 23; 4,014 on April 22; 4,280 on April 21 and 4,559 on April 20.
Some 5,234 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 6,66,927 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has stood at 88.73 percent.
The DGHS said 13.93 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 12.51 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.
A total of 24,237 samples, out of 24,509 collected, were tested at 358 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 53,95,524 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country. The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
The number of coronavirus tests and new infection case detections started to decline in the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year.
The DGHS said 670 severely ill patients were undergoing treatment in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Covid-19 dedicated hospitals and at corona units of other hospitals across the country.
