Daily corona deaths again cross 100 mark

The number of daily coronavirus deaths has again crossed 100 mark in the country while the total number of deaths has crossed 11,000 in Bangladesh since the report of first death on March 18 last year.

According to the data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,314 coronavirus infected patients died in the country in the last 14 days from April 12 to April 25 as 101 more died in the last 24 hours.

Among the 101 deceased, 52 were men and 49 were women. Of them, one was within 0-10 years; three within 21-30 years old; three were within 31-40 years old; 11 were between 41 to 50; 18 within 51 to 60; and 65 were above 60 years old.

Of the fresh deaths, 69 died in different government hospitals while 32 in different private hospitals across the country.

Of the deceased, 54 hailed from Dhaka, 23 from Chattogram, one from Rajshahi, five from Khulna, seven from Barishal, two from Rangpur, one from Mymensingh and eight from Sylhet division.

A total of 1,314 patients died in the last 14 days as 101 deaths were reported on Sunday, 83 on Saturday, 88 on Friday, 98 on Thursday, 95 on Wednesday, 91 on Tuesday, 112 on Monday, 102 on Sunday, 101 on Saturday, 101 on Friday, 94 on Thursday and 96 deaths on Wednesday.

Some 2,922 infection cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning, raising the total number to 745,322. The daily infection rate has stood at 13.33 percent in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning which was 13.11 percent on Saturday, 14 on Friday, 14.63 on Thursday, 15.07 on Wednesday, 16.85 on Tuesday, 17.68 on Monday and 19.06 on Sunday.

Earlier, 2,697 infection cases were reported on April 24; 3,629 on April 23; 4,014 on April 22; 4,280 on April 21; 4,559 on April 20; 4,271 on April 19; 3,698 on April 18; 3,473 on April 17; 4,417 on April 16; 4,192 on April 15; 5,185 on April 14; 6,028 on April 13; 7,201 on April 12; 5,819 on April 11 and 5,343 on April 10.

The DGHS said the total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 11,053 with 101 new deaths in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning. The total death rate has stood at 1.48 percent.

Some 4,301 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 6,57,452 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has stood at 88.21 percent.

The DGHS said 13.94 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 13.33 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.

A total of 21,922 samples, out of 21,448 collected, were tested at 350 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 53,45,501 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.

The number of coronavirus tests and new infection case detections started to decline in the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year.

However, the numbers of infections and deaths started rising further from March 10 and jumped to the highest single-day cases on April 7.

The DGHS said hospitals were overwhelmed with the coronavirus infected patients across the country, including in Dhaka, as the number of severely ill patients has increased in the last few weeks.

It said 713 severely ill patients were undergoing treatment in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Covid-19 dedicated hospitals and at corona units of other hospitals across the country.
