Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader said the government should withdraw the ongoing nationwide lockdown if it is possible as the daily wage-earners are suffering for lack of foods.

“The financial aid which has been announced on behalf of the prime minister for the affected people is very inadequate as 2.5 crore people have become the new poor during the pandemic in the country,” he said in a written statement on Friday.

“Without ensuring food security, it is not possible to achieve the benefit from the lockdown. Crores of people of the country are living from hand to mouth. They have to go to the street to earn livelihood,” he added.

GM Quader, also the deputy leader of the opposition in parliament, also drew attention of the government to distribute emergency relief among the daily wage-earners of the country.

“The daily wage-earners are now wailing due to lockdown since April 14. The low-income groups have become workless and have been suffering a lot,” he lamented.
