The numbers of daily coronavirus infection cases and deaths declined in the last 24 hours till Friday morning as 88 more Covid-19 patient died and 3,629 new cases were detected during the period.
According to data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,130 coronavirus infected patients died in Bangladesh in the last 12 days from April 12 to April 23 as 88 fresh deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.Among the 88 deceased, 62 were men and 26 were women. Of them, one was within 0-10 years old; six were within 31-40 years old; six were between 41-50; 15 within 51-60; and 60 were above 60 years old.
Among the fresh deaths, 53 died in different government hospitals, 34 in different private hospitals across the country and one died on the way to hospital.
Of the deceased, 53 hailed from Dhaka, 18 from Chattogram, three from Rajshahi, three from Khulna, three from Rangpur, three from Sylhet and five from Mymensingh.
A total of 1,130 patients died in the last 12 days as 88 deaths were reported on Friday, 98 on Thursday, 95 on Wednesday, 91 deaths on Tuesday, 112 on Monday, 102 on Sunday, 101 on Saturday, 101 on Friday, 94 on Thursday and 96 deaths on Wednesday.
Some 3,629 new coronavirus infection cases have been detected in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 7,39,703. The daily infection rate has declined to 14 percent in the last 24 hours which was 14.63 percent on Thursday, 15.07 percent on Wednesday, 16.85 percent on Tuesday, 17.68 percent on Monday and 19.06 percent on Sunday.
Earlier, 4,014 new infection cases were reported on April 22; 4,280 on April 21; 4,559 on April 20; 4,271 on April 19; 3,698 on April 18; 3,473 on April 17; 4,417 on April 16; 4,192 on April 15; 5,185 on April 14; 6,028 on April 13; 7,201 on April 12; 5,819 on April 11 and 5,343 on April 10.The DGHS said the total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 10,869 with 88 new deaths in the last 24 hours till Friday morning. The total death rate has risen to 1.47 percent.
Some 5,225 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 6,47,674 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has risen to 87.56 percent.
The DGHS said 13.95 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 14.00 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.
A total of 25,896 samples, out of 26,413 collected, were tested at 349 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 53,03,008 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.
The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
The number of coronavirus tests and new infection case detections started to decline in the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year.
However, the numbers of infections and deaths started rising further from March 10 and jumped to the highest single-day cases on April 7.
According to the DGHS, the hospitals were overwhelmed with the coronavirus infected patients across the country, including in Dhaka, as the number of severely ill patients has increased in the last few weeks.
It said 758 severely ill patients were undergoing treatment in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Covid-19 dedicated hospitals and at corona unit of other hospitals across the country.
