Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested another top leader of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh from Singair upazila in Manikganj on Thursday in connection with a case filed with Paltan Police Station over violence.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team picked up Khaled Saifullah Ayubi, assistant secretary general of the Islamist group’s central unit, from his village home in Singair upazila in the early hours.

RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin said the Hefazat leader would soon be handed over to police.

Ayubi was also accused in cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the Hefazat mayhem in the capital on May 5, 2013.

Meanwhile, DB police arrested assistant office secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan Unit of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Maulana Ahtesamul Haque Sathi from the capital’s Bangshal area in the afternoon.

A team of Tejgaon DB Division held him at about 5:30pm, said Iftekharul Islam, additional deputy commissioner (media and public relations) of the DMP.
