An 11-year-old boy, who was allegedly beaten by his neighbour at Khilkhet area in the capital several days ago, died early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Rony, 11, son of Md Raihan of Kishoreganj. The child lived with his family in the area and used to sell tea and masks.

Khilkhet Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman said the body of the child was recovered from a rented house in Khilkhet Madhyapara area around 9:30am. The body was sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around noon.

Quoting Rony’s relatives, SI Mizanur Rahman said on the afternoon of April 16, Fayez Mia, who lives in the room next to Rony’s rented house, was beating his daughter. Rony went to stop him. At a stage, the man hit Rony hard, leaving him with a severe chest injury. Rony didn’t tell his parents about the matter at first. When he felt the pain again, the matter was disclosed.

Rony was first treated locally. His condition deteriorated on Tuesday and he was admitted to a private hospital in Khilkhet. He died around 12:30am on Wednesday. Later, his relatives brought his body to home. The child’s uncles Ahidul Islam and Swapan Mia said Rony was the only child of his parents. They alleged that Rony was murder.

According to Rony’s two relatives, Fayez has been on the run since the family found out about the incident.
