A housewife was killed allegedly by her dowry-greedy husband Hazaribagh in the capital on Wednesday morning.

The victim was identified as Sazeda Akhter, 19.

Police arrested Sazeda’s husband Mohammad Titu in this connection.

Sazidur Rahman Sazid, officer-in-charge of Hazaribagh Police Station, told the Daily Sun that the couple used to live at Tilabari of Rayerbazar.

Titu might have suffocated his wife with a pillow while she was sleeping after having sehri (the pre-dawn meal in the holy month of Ramadan), he said.

Sazeda was rushed to the DMCH immediately where the on-duty doctors declared her dead at around 6:30am, he added. The body was kept at DMCH morgue.

The victim’s brother Farhad said that Sazeda was married to Titu one year ago.

A few days after their marriage, Titu started putting pressure on Sazeda for dowry and often used to torture her for it,” he said.

He claimed that Titu killed his sister for dowry.
