Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday asked BNP to extend a helping hand to distressed people rather than pay lip service.

“Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has to return to people if it wants to assume state power. Now pro-people politics is more needed,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said this while exchanging views with officials of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BTRC) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Khulna zone virtually from his official residence on parliament premises in the capital. The AL leader said country’s politics, spirit of the war of liberation and democratic journey have been damaged by the BNP.

“They have marred every achievement of the state with propaganda and blind criticism,” he said.

The AL spokesperson alleged that BNP has been making evil efforts to throw all the remarkable achievements into question.

“By stigmatizing the golden achievements of the nation, they want to take back the politics of the country to the defeated Pakistani ideology. But this is no longer possible as people won’t allow it to happen again,” he said.

Quader said, “Pro-people and development-oriented politics of Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, have landed all parties in crisis, casting a shadow of darkness on the path of their political ambitions.”
