The number of deaths from coronavirus has been increasing in the country day by day as over 90 Covid-19 patients died across the country, including in Dhaka, for the last eight consecutive days.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 944 coronavirus infected patients died in the country in the last 10 days from April 12 to April 21 as 95 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning.Among the 95 deceased, 59 were men and 36 were women. Of them, three were within 31-40 years old; 13 between 41-50; 22 within 51-60 and 57 were above 60 years old.
Of the fresh deaths, 60 died in different government hospitals, 31 in different private hospitals across the country and four died at home.
Fifty -eight of the victims hailed from Dhaka, 17 from Chattogram, eight from Rajshahi, three from Khulna, three from Rangpur and two from Barishal divisions, three from Sylhet and one from Mymensingh.
A total of 944 patients died in the last 10 days as 91 deaths from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday, 112 on Monday, 102 on Sunday, 101 on Saturday, 101 on Friday, 94 on Thursday and 96 on Wednesday.
Some 4,280 new coronavirus infection cases have been detected in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 7,32,060.The daily infection rate has declined to 15.07 percent in the last 24 hours which was 16.85 percent on Tuesday, 17.68 percent on Monday and 19.06 percent on Sunday.
Earlier, 4,559 new cases were detected on April 20; 4,271 on April 19; 3,698 on April 18; 3,473 on April 17; 4,417 on April 16; 4,192 on April 15; 5,185 on April 14; 6,028 on April 13; 7,201 on April 12; 5,819 on April 11 and 5,343 on April 10.The DGHS said the total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 10,683 with 95 new deaths in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning. The total death rate has stood at 1.46 percent.
Some 7,072 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 6,35,183 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has been reported 86.77 percent on Wednesday.
The DGHS said 13.94 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 15.07 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.
A total of 28,408 samples, out of 28,561 collected, were tested at 335 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 52,49,683 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.
The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
The number of coronavirus tests and new infection case detections started to decline in the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year.
However, the numbers of infections and deaths started rising further from March 10 and jumped to the highest single-day cases on April 7.
According to the DGHS, the hospitals were overwhelmed with the coronavirus infected patients across the country, including in Dhaka, as the number of severely ill patients has increased for the last few weeks.
It said 793 critically ill patients were undergoing treatment in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Covid-19 dedicated hospitals and in corona unit of other hospitals across the country.
