The number of deaths from coronavirus has been increasing in the country day by day as 697 Covid-19 patients died across the country, including in Dhaka, in the last seven days.
According to the data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Bangladesh saw deaths of over 90 coronavirus infected patients in a single day for the last seven consecutive days as 91 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.Among the 91 deceased, 58 were men and 33 were women. Of them, seven were within 31-40 years old, 11 between 41-50 years, 18 within 51-60 years, 54 were above 60 years old and one was within 11-20 years old.
Of the fresh deaths, 52 died in different government hospitals, 36 in different private hospitals across the country and two died at home. One more Covid-19 patient died on the way to a hospital.
Moreover, 60 of the victims hailed from Dhaka, 17 from Chattogram, five from Khulna, three from Rajshahi, two from Rangpur and four from Barishal divisions.
This is for the seventh consecutive day that the country reported more than 90 deaths. A total of 697 patients died in the last 7 days as 112 deaths were reported on Monday, 102 on Sunday, 101 on Saturday, 101 on Friday, 94 on Thursday and 96 on Wednesday.
Some 4,559 new coronavirus infection cases were detected in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 7,27,780. The daily infection rate has declined to 16.85 percent in the last 24 hours which was 17.68 percent on Monday and 19.06 percent on Sunday.
Earlier, 4,271 infection cases were reported on April 19; 3,698 infection cases were reported on April 18; 3,473 on April 17; 4,417 on April 16; 4,192 on April 15; 5,185 on April 14; 6,028 on April 13; 7,201 on April 12; 5,819 on April 11 and 5,343 on April 10.The DGHS said the total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 10,588 with 91 new deaths in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning. The total death rate has stood at 1.45 percent.
Some 6,811 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 6,28,111 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has been reported 86.31 percent on Tuesday.
The DGHS said 13.94 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 16.85 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.
A total of 27,796 samples, out of 27,056 collected, were tested at 265 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 52,21,275 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.
The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
The number of coronavirus tests and new infection case detections started to decline in the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year.
However, the numbers of infections and deaths started rising further from March 10 and jumped to the highest single-day cases on April 7.
According to the DGHS, the hospitals were overwhelmed with the coronavirus infected patients across the country, including in Dhaka, as the number of severe patients has increased for the last few weeks.
It said 762 severely ill patients were undergoing treatment in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Covid-19 dedicated hospitals and in corona unit of other hospitals across the country.
