Stocks witness marginal gain

Stocks witnessed a marginal gain and made an improved turnover on Tuesday as bargain hunters remained active on sector-wise lucrative issues as virus-related lockdown worries eased somewhat.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 71.87 points or 1.34 per cent to settle at 5,421.78.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also advanced 17.34 points or 1.43 per cent to close at 1,233.53 and the DSE30 Index, comprising blue chips, gained 36.12 points or 1.76 per cent to finish at 2,082.82.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, added to Tk 12.99 billion, which was 86.41 per cent higher than the previous day’s turnover of Tk 6.97 billion.

Out of 344 issues traded, 98 declined, 193 advanced and 63 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

A total number of 154,673 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with a trading volume of 256.08 million shares and mutual fund units.

Beximco - the flagship company of Beximco Group- was the most-traded stock with shares worth about Tk 1.48 billion changing hands, followed by Beximco Pharma, LankaBangla Finance, Robi, Bangladesh Finance and Investment Co and British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company.

Eastern Insurance Company was the day’s top gainer, posting a gain of 9.93 per cent, closely followed by Miracle Industries, Anwar Galvanizing, Golden Son, Shinepukur Ceramics and Heidelberg Cement Bangladesh. Provati Insurance Company was the worst loser, losing 6.39 per cent, closely followed by Continental Insurance, Central Insurance Company, Crystal Insurance Company, Sonar Bangla Insurance and Prime Insurance Company.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also edged higher with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –gaining 214.39 points to settle at 15,685 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX advancing 130.33 points to close at 9,463.

Of the issues traded, 76 declined, 133 advanced and 28 remained unchanged on the CSE.
