Prof Dr Tareque Shamsur laid to rest

Professor Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman, a retired professor of International Relations Department of Jahangirnagar University, was laid to rest next to his parents’ grave at Pirojpur Municipality Graveyard on Monday.

The international relations analyst was found dead on Saturday at his Uttara residence in the capital.

He lived there alone as his wife lives with their only daughter in Dallas in the USA.

Police recovered Professor Rehman’s body by breaking the door of his flat at 11:30am.

His autopsy was conducted at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka on Sunday and his body was handed over to his family members staying in the country.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Uttara Sector 18 mosque and then he was taken to his ancestral home in Pirojpur Sadar’s Ukilpara area.

He was buried beside the grave of his parents Ataur Rahman and Shirin Rahman after his second namaz-e-janaza at Pirojpur’s Old Eidgah Maidan at 10am on Monday.

Professor Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman was also a member of University Grants Commission (UGC).

He penned a number of books on the politics of Bangladesh, South Asia and global affairs and wrote column in newspapers and attended talk shows in TV channels.
