Daily corona deaths hit new record

102 die in 24 hours

Daily casualties from coronavirus continued to rise in Bangladesh with record 102 deaths reported over the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.

With this, over 100 virus-related deaths were registered for the third consecutive day. The national death toll has reached 10,385.

The country recorded previous highest 101 deaths from coronavirus both on Saturday and Friday.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 3,698 new coronavirus infections were reported in the last 24 hours, raising the total cases to 718,950.

The daily positivity rate has declined to 19.06 per cent from Saturday’s 21.46 per cent while the overall positivity rate has stood at 13.91 per cent.

Earlier, 3,473 cases were reported on April 17 while 4,417 on April 16, 4,192 on April 15, 5,185 on April 14, 6,028 on April 13, 7,201 on April 12, 5,819 on April 11, 5,343 on April 10 and 7,462 on April 9.

The DGHS has reported the case fatality rate at 1.44 percent.

Some 6,121 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours,

taking the total recoveries to 614,936. The recovery rate was reported at 85.53 per cent on Sunday.

A total of 19,404 samples were tested at 257 labs during the period. With this, 5,170,067 samples have so far been tested in the country.

First three coronavirus cases were reported on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded 10 days later.

Both deaths and infections from coronavirus started to decline from the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year.

However, the numbers started to rise from March 10.
