A sense of insecurity gripped the family of banker Abdul Morshed Chowdhury as the accused are yet to be arrested reportedly for their political influence.
The family members sought the intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the arrest of the accused, who are still roaming freely.The victim’s wife Ishrat Chowdhury said they provided all the necessary information and evidence to the police immediately after filing the case.
“But, no visible progress is seen in the investigation of the case even after nine days of the incident,” she said.
“I feel a sense of insecurity as police are yet to arrest the accused. The accused
may cause harm to me, my daughter or any other family members,” said frightened Ishrat.
The accused Parvez Iqbal helped the involvement of Whip’s son Nazmul Hoque Chowdhury Sharun with the incident. Sharun pressurised Morshed for the money repeatedly, she said.
The central Juba League Organising Secretary Shahidul Hoque Chowdhury Russell phoned Morshed a day before his suicide.Morshed couldn’t cope with the repeated pressures despite refunding the borrowed money and chose to commit suicide for relief, she observed.
Sharun invested in a business through accused Parvez Iqbal, said the sources.
So, he phoned Morshed, took part in the attack carried out at his residence and attended the meeting at the residence of Morshed’s relative Azam on the same day on May 29 in 2019.
However, sources hinted that police are not arresting the accused for political pressures from those involved with the incident.
Contacted, the Investigation Officer (IO) Inspector Mainur Rahman of the Detective Branch (DB) said they were investigating the death of the banker.
Regarding the arrest of the accused, he said drives were underway in different areas to nab them.
Mentionable, failing to cope with the immense pressure, banker Morshed became the victim of Sharun's secret business.
The bank official didn’t get relief even after repaying around Tk 38 crore against the loan of Tk 25 crore, said family sources.
He had to choose the path of suicide.
Morshed was manager of Bank Al Falah Agrabad Branch and committed suicide at his residence in the city’s Hill View Residential area on April 7.
He basically became the victim of faith even after paying a huge amount including principal and interest against the borrowed amount.
He didn’t take back the security cheque gave in good faith. The gang repeatedly demanded profit against those cheques.
The accused continued attacking at the victim’s residence, filing lawsuits, kidnapping and other threats for the money.
There were also political and administrative pressures. The banker, who was unable to bear those, committed suicide seeking relief.
A case was filed with the Panchlaish police station accusing four people in connection with the forced suicide.
The accused are two businessmen and Morshed’s cousins Jabed Iqbal and his brother Parvez Iqbal, Juba League Central Organising Secretary Shahidul Haque Chowdhury Russell and one Naeem Uddin Shakib.
Allegations of provocation for torture and suicide were brought against the accused in the case.
