Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday alleged that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was spreading propaganda about lockdown after failing in evil attempts to spoil coronavirus vaccination.

“BNP is now unleashing propaganda on lockdown after the party has failed to do politics over coronavirus vaccination. Their double standard behaviour and controversial statement is discouraging people to stay at home during the lockdown,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the remarks while addressing a coronavirus protective equipment distribution ceremony held at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office.

The ruling party’s spokesperson joined the function, organised by AL sub-committee on relief and social welfare, virtually from his official residence on parliament premises in the capital.

“Doesn’t the BNP actually want that the deadly coronavirus situation comes under control?” he posed a question.

About BNP leaders allegation that there is no democracy in the country, Quader said BNP has become a peddler of democracy after doing undemocratic practices and creating obstacles in flourishing democracy of the country.

“What BNP has done to strengthen democracy,” he questioned.

The minister said BNP had ruined the country’s democracy and given an institutional shape to corruption.

In his Facebook post, Quader also urged all irrespective of political affiliation to fight against the deadly bug unitedly.

“No more politics, now duty is to fight against coronavirus. Today’s politics is to build a fortress of awareness against coronavirus pandemic. Let us fight against the bug unidetly for public interest,” he said.

Mentioning the death of Awami League presidium member Abdul Matin Khasru, Quader said deaths from the virus are continuing.
