CHATTOGRAM: Owner of a building allegedly locked house of a tenant for arrear house-rent in the city’s Lalkhan Bazar area on Thursday night.

The six-member family however went back to the house with the help of police after passing the night on footpath.

Tenant Shridham Devnath said they were living at rented house of Md Mostafa since 2012.

They could not pay rent of three months amounting to Tk 25,000 for the Corona pandemic.

The building owner locked the house driving them out at 10:00pm on Thursday.

On information, police came forward and took them back to the house at 12:00pm on Friday, he said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC North) Abu Bakkar Siddique of Chattogram Metropolitan Police said they took initiative to take the family back at the residence.

The owner shouldn’t do such a heartless behaviour to the family in this pandemic situation, he said.

The tenant was asked to pay the rent through installment, he added.
