Two killed in road crashes

Two people were killed in separate road accidents in the capital’s Malibagh and Lalmatia areas in the last two days.

The deceased are identified as Dulal Chakrabarti, 45, and Kamal Matubbar, 35.

In Malibagh, a motorcycle hit Dulal in front of a CNG filling station around 10:00pm on Monday, leaving him injured. The motorcyclist Hridoy, 17, was also injured in the incident. They were rushed to the DMCH where doctors declared Dulal dead at about 11:30pm.

Hridoy is now undergoing treatment in the hospital, said Bacchu Mia, who is in charge of the DMCH police outpost.

In Lalmatia, a covered van hit a rickshaw in front of Bangladesh Eye Hospital around 6:00am on Tuesday, leaving the rickshawpuller Kamal and passenger Humayun Kabir, 18, injured.

Policemen took them to the DMCH where Kamal succumbed to his injuries.

Altab Hossain, sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station, said they arrested the driver of the covered van and seized the vehicle.
