New BGMEA board takes office

Newly-elected board of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) pose for a photo after assuming office on Tuesday.

Newly-elected board of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has assumed office on Tuesday.

The elected officials will serve the country’s apparel sector trade body for next two years.

BGMEA acting president Mohammed Abdus Salam handed over the responsibility to the new board.

Faruque Hassan, managing director of the Giant Group, formally took the office as new BGMEA president. Hassan's panel Sammilita Parishad won 24 positions of directors out of total 35 in the biennial elections.

The elections for the term 2021-23 were held in Dhaka and Chattogram on April 4. Faruque Hassan has succeeded Dr. Rubana Huq who had been serving the office since April 20, 2019. The new board of directors selected seven vice presidents for the tenure. Syed Nazrul Islam is the first vice president of BGMEA. SM Mannan (Kochi) has been selected senior vice-president while other vice-presidents are Md Shahidullah Azim, Khandoker Rafiqul Islam (Finance), Miran Ali, Md Nasir Uddin and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury.
