A Dhaka court on Sunday granted police permission to interrogate a female college teacher in their custody for four days in relation to the death of a maid at her flat in the capital's New Market area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam passed the order after police took Farzana Islam, a teacher of accounting at Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College, before the court requesting permission to quiz her for 10 days.

Earlier on Saturday night, police arrested the college teacher on charges of torturing her domestic help, Laily Aktar, 17, to death.

Police recovered the body from Farzana’s flat on the third-floor of a residential building.

Later, victim's mother Shyamola Begum lodged a murder case.
