Supreme Court lawyers on Sunday submitted a memorandum to Chief Justice (CJ) Syed Mahmud Hossain, requesting him to form 35 virtual High Court benches for quickly disposing of cases during the lockdown period.

The lawyers under the banner of Sadharan Ainjibi Parishad submitted the memorandum signed by the parishad's Convener Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi to the office concerned with the CJ.

They also urged the chief justice to direct the lower courts concerned in holding hearing on the petitions regarding bail, surrender and filing case during this period.

In the memorandum, the lawyers said they are being deprived of their legal rights to move cases and litigants are not getting justice due to closure of most court functions.

After submitting the memorandum, they also formed a human chain and staged demonstration on the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) premises.

Earlier on April 4, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain decided to run the court functions on a limited scale during the restrictions imposed by the government due to the pandemic.
