Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized the cargo vessel ‘SKL-3’ and detained 14 employees working on the ship, including the master, from Gazaria in Munshiganj on Thursday.

On Sunday evening, ‘Sabit Al Hasan’, a vessel, turned over after it was hit by SKL-3 in the Shitalakshya River near Koylaghati under Bandar Upazila in Narayanganj, killing at least 34 passengers.

The BCG handed over the cargo ship and the detainees to Gazari river police, said Lieutenant Khandaker Munif Touki, media officer of the BCG headquarters.

An officer of the BCG said that the cargo vessel went to Gazaria directly soon after hitting the launch.

“Its colour was changed immediately to avoid seizure. It was then anchored near Gazaria Coast Guard Station,” the officer said.
