AL man injured in attack by Mamunul’s supporters dies

CHATTOGRAM: An Awami League (AL) activist, who sustained severe injuries in an attack by the followers of controversial Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Hoque, died at a private clinic in the city on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Md Mohibullah, 54, of Rangunia upazila in the district.

Sources said followers of Mamunul Hoque brought out a protest procession after the news of cordoning him off with a woman at a resort in Narayanganj spread on Saturday evening.

The demonstrators, including BNP-Jamaat men, attacked on Mohibullah and two others while they were going towards the Kodala Bazar in the upazila.

The attack left Mohibullah injured seriously and he was sent to a private clinic in the city.

He succumbed to his injuries at the clinic on Wednesday              

morning, they said.

Officer in-Charge (OC) Mahbub Milky of the Rangunia police station said another injured Abdul Jabbar and police filed two separate cases in connection with the attack.

A total of 64 identified and 130 to 150 unidentified persons were made accused in the cases, he said. Police arrested four accused in the case so far.
