CHATTOGRAM: An Awami League (AL) activist, who sustained severe injuries in an attack by the followers of controversial Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Hoque, died at a private clinic in the city on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Md Mohibullah, 54, of Rangunia upazila in the district.Sources said followers of Mamunul Hoque brought out a protest procession after the news of cordoning him off with a woman at a resort in Narayanganj spread on Saturday evening.
The demonstrators, including BNP-Jamaat men, attacked on Mohibullah and two others while they were going towards the Kodala Bazar in the upazila.
The attack left Mohibullah injured seriously and he was sent to a private clinic in the city.
He succumbed to his injuries at the clinic on Wednesday
morning, they said.
Officer in-Charge (OC) Mahbub Milky of the Rangunia police station said another injured Abdul Jabbar and police filed two separate cases in connection with the attack.A total of 64 identified and 130 to 150 unidentified persons were made accused in the cases, he said. Police arrested four accused in the case so far.
