Rafiqul Islam Madani held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested Rafiqul Islam Madani, widely known as ‘Shishu Bokta’, on Wednesday on charges of making anti-state and provocative remarks.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the RAB Legal and Media wing, confirmed the news.

Rafiqul Islam Madani was arrested from Purbadhala area of Netrakona in the morning. Legal action is underway against him, he said.

Meanwhile, his fans alleged on social media that Maulana Rafiqul Islam was picked up from his home in the guise of RAB.

Besides, Rafiqul Islam, 26, of Netrakona district wrote in his latest Facebook post, “They are trying to make me disappear.” Later in the afternoon, Mamunul Haque, joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, wrote on his Facebook status, “I have confirmed that Maulana Rafiqul Islam Madani was in RAB custody. I demand his immediate release.”

On April 3, Rafiqul Islam, who resides in Gazipur, came to Facebook Live and spoke in support of Mamunul Haque who was confined along with a woman at Royal Resort in Narayanganj.

Earlier on March 25, Motijheel police arrested Rafiqul Islam Madani from an anti-Modi protest procession at Shapla Chattar area in the capital. However, he was released a few hours later.

As per the prearranged programme, the Students and Youth Rights Council staged an anti-Modi protest in which Rafiqul Islam Madani took part.
