Three cases have been filed against 83 people, including Joint Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Maulana Mamunul Haque, over the attack on policemen and Royal Resort in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj.

The cases, filed with Sonargaon Police Station on Tuesday night, also named 500-600 unknown people as accused, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.

He said two cases were filed by the police while the other one was lodged by a local journalist as he was beaten by some Hefazat activists.

The OC said they have already arrested an accused and were trying to arrest the others. In the afternoon of April 3, some locals caught Mamunul along with a woman from a room of the luxurious resort.

Being informed, several hundred leaders and activists of Hefazat rushed to the resort and stormed into it.  They vandalised the resort and took Mamunul to a nearby mosque.

Mamunul claimed the woman as his second wife and mentioned her name as Amena Tayyeb.

But the woman claimed her name as Jannat Ara Jharna of Alfadanga in Faridpur.
