Madrasa teacher held for raping 1st grader in Cumilla

A madrasa teacher has been arrested for reportedly raping a student in Nangalkot upazila of Cumilla district.

Police made the arrest on Monday after being informed by a caller through the National Emergency Service -- 999.

The caller dialled 999 around 9:00pm on Monday from Shubhpur under Bakshiganj union of Nangalkot and informed that a Class-I madrasa student, aged seven, was raped by her teacher.

The madrasa student, who fell sick, was first taken to Nangalkot Health Complex where she was referred to Cumilla Medical College Hospital.

Locals in the area got agitated and detained some madrasa teachers on suspicion. The caller further said there was a tense situation there.

The National Emergency Service immediately diverted the call to Nangalkot Police Station and the caller spoke to the duty officer. Upon receiving the news, a team of police rushed to the spot.

Later, sub-inspector Atiq told 999 over phone that they went to the spot and sent the victim to hospital.

They also arrested the accused teacher, Belal Hossain, 26, over the incident.

A case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act in this regard.
