RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a meeting have emphasised enforcing the weeklong lockdown strictly for containing the surging trend of Covid-19 in Rajshahi city.

They said there is no way but to enforce the lockdown declared by government and abide by the health guidelines for halting the spread of coronavirus infection, reports BSS.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) organised the meeting at its conference hall under the auspices of committee for preventing and facing the Covid-19.

City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton chaired the meeting, addressed, among others, by Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Moinul Islam, Principal of Rajshahi Medical College Prof Dr Nawshad Ali, Head of the Department of Medicine Prof Dr Khalilur Rahman and Civil Surgeon Dr Quiume Talukder.

Addressing the meeting, Mayor Liton urged all concerned to motivate the people to follow the government’s directives to tackle the transmission of coronavirus.

He hoped that everyone would work together to curb the spread of coronavirus by implementing the government orders to deal with the second wave of the lethal virus. He said the kitchen markets have to be set up in open space like last year as health guidelines must be maintained there.

Liton told the meeting that after first detection of coronavirus cases in the city in March last year, various government and non-government organizations stood by the people as a humanitarian force to tackle the crisis.
