Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel has been relieved of his command, as he has long been absent from work.

“Today (Monday) I have been ordered that Maruf Kamal be relieved of his post,” Syed Emran Saleh Prince, organizing secretary of the BNP, told the daily sun.

He cited Maruf Kamal’s prolonged absence from work and inaction since 2018 as the reason for his dismissal.

Maruf Kamal was not in communication with the party and was neglectful of his responsibilities, added Emran Saleh Prince, who is also in charge of the BNP office secretary.

BNP sources said party standing committee at a recent meeting took the decision to relieve Maruf Kamal of his duty.

Maruf Kamal had been serving as the press secretary of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia since 2009 and was also the deputy press secretary of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia during the BNP-led four-party collation government in the period of 2001-2006.
